Uncommon Heroes

I woke up this morning, on a grey, dreary day. Isolated from the rest of the world as we are called to limit our trips outside - however, the church is something that can never really close. Since the Middle Ages, whenever there has been an upheaval in society the church has been he place that people looked to for hope, inspiration, guidance - and more importantly - a connection with God.

So I ventured out this morning and went to DD and to Giant.

No lines at either place… I was just greeted by smiles. I tried my best to return them - and thank Ayisha and Brittany for being there so I could get my coffee, some TP and a few other things as well.

Then I headed to the office, and fighting the headache that comes from suffering from sinusitis and seasonal allergies, I tried to wrap my head around Exodus chapter 4.

On the one hand we have Uncommon Hero #1 - Moses. Someone who was very reluctant to even consider answering the call as God was trying to connect with him. Moses had 4 different excuses before he flat out told God, “Please send someone else!”

Yet, there was no denying what God wanted to do and whom God wanted to accomplish it through - and to make that even clearer, God gave us Uncommon Hero #2 - Aaron.

Now Aaron wasn’t the main guy, he is kind of like Tonto to the Lone Ranger. Not the one who gets all the glory or all the publicity. He isn’t the one they sing songs about or even get’s his face on the Wheaties box (for those of you old enough to remember Wheaties). Aaron though plays a vital role, because he is the compliment to Moses. He helps give Moses credibility with the elders of the Israelites and set the stage for Moses to fulfill his responsibilities.

Which, brings me to Uncommon Hero #3 - You. You may be called to be that person that is in front. The one that gets all the credit - and all the blame. Usually, you don’t deserve all of either, and yet you have to choose how and when you will be obedient to the prompting of God and step out to lead and to see God’s plans accomplished through you.

Or maybe, you aren’t that front and center person. You are the one who vacuums up when no one is looking or cleans the bathroom - just because it needs to be done - and in the process makes your boss, your co-worker, your friend look better. Your not interested in the spotlight as much as you are in seeing God’s light shine.

Either way, you are a hero all the same.

Ayisha and Brittany are my new heroes - people who show up that we sometimes overlook.

Today, two things for you as you go about your day:

Who are the heroes in your path today? Will you recognize them?

What is God asking you to do today? Will you answer the call?
